Caputo discussed the accomplishment with GEOINT attendees in the TerraGo Innovation Lab on the show floor. During his presentation, Caputo discussed how the project originated between the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and Army TEC as the organizations looked for a better way to replicate and distribute their maps and images in support of national security objectives. Key accomplishments within the project that were highlighted include:
* NGA Research Center has converted more than 31,000 standard products into Raster GeoPDFs.
* Army TEC has packaged most of these maps by country with an easy to use Index map, which is distributed via DVD and through websites.
* Army TEC has converted nearly 60,000 USGS Digital Raster Graphic files from GeoTIFF to GeoPDF, and these are posted on the USGS store website http://store.usgs.gov.
Currently underway are many other projects, including the Inland Electronic Navigation Chart (IENC) Data Team's plans to publish 7,800 miles of navigable waterways in the US in GeoPDF format; the NGA's plans to deliver Geospatial Contingency Packages (GCP) and Iraq country and city atlases; and the Army's inclusion of TerraGo Publisher software as part of its Digital Topographic Support System (DTSS), that utilize the capabilities of the TerraGo Publisher software that produces the GeoPDF files.
According to Rick Cobb, president and CEO for TerraGo, "We're proud to be associated with the award-winning implementation of technology that is equipping our nation's armed forces and those who support them with the ability to respond faster and make better decisions. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize Ray Caputo and his team as true visionaries in this industry and great partners to our company."
