Mitsubishi first introduced its Concept-cX at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007 and now the company has confirmed it will begin production of it vehicle. According to the automaker a new compact SUV based on the Concept-cX will be named Compact Crossover and is scheduled to make it to the Japanese market by early next year (February 2010), after which the vehicle will also be available in other markets around the world.

The model will be manufactured under Mitsubishiâs Project Global â" a mid-sized global platform. The new Compact Crossover signals a shift for the brand towards more passenger and crossover models and away from full-fledged SUVs.

Mitsubishi Compact Crossover will feature all-wheel drive capability. It will be equipped with a new 1.8 liter diesel engine with 134 bhp and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. One of the most significant features of the vehicle will be the Mitsubishiâs twin-clutch SST gearbox, already seen in the Evo X.

Mitsubishi will first present the Compact Crossover in Europe at the 2010 Geneva motor show.
