Mercedes-Benzs new SLS AMG is, probably, one of the most impressive vehicles ever produced. However, Friedrich Eichler, AMGs chief powertrain engineer, has stated that the AMG can be even better, as the Mercedes-Benzs performance division is currently working on an SLS Black Series, which is scheduled to debut in 2013. As we know the AMG has already released several Black Series models (high-performance variants of already potent AMG offerings), the SLS will likely spawn a Black Series variant as well.
Mercedes representatives have not only approved the news about the super exclusive Gullwing hypercar, but have also released some details about the exterior and performance upgrades of SLS Black Series.
The SLS AMGs standard 6.3L V8 engine already makes an outstanding 571-hp and a peak torque of 479 lb-ft. The Black Series model, meanwhile, will be upgraded to make 600-hp with a maximum torque of 500 lb-ft. The acceleration 0-62 mph is expected to fall below 3.5 seconds (from 3.8 seconds of the standard SLS), while the top speed will be increased from 197 mph to 208 mph. This numbers will be achieved by increasing the compression ratio of the engine, creating a new profile for the camshafts and using a larger air intake manifold.
Were not at the limit with whats out there the moment. Were saving the best until last, says Friedrich Eichler, head of engine development at AMG.
The SLS Black Series will be produced in a very limited number in 2013 and is expected to be priced about €260,000 (£230,000).
