Volkswagen has officially announced that a special edition Jetta inspired by the TDI Cup race cars will be coming to VW dealerships across the U.S. in the beginning of 2010.

The production version is based on the concept presented at SEMA 2008 and is a race series designed to show that even diesel power can yield enthralling race action. The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup will be equipped with the front bumper, side skirts and rear valance that are also used in the TDI Cup race cars. The vehicle will also get larger brakes with red calipers, 18 inch alloy wheels with performance all-season tires, sway bars and a sportier tuned suspension. In general the vehicle has a body kit similar to the version introduced during previous TDI Cup races.

On the other hand the Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition will not get the TDI Cup race carâs more powerful 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine which is rated at 170 horsepower and nearly 300 ft-lbs of torque. It will come with a 140 horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine that generates a healthy 236 ft-lb of torque. The engine will be coupled with either a six-speed manual transmission or VWâs DSG dual clutch semi-automatic transmission.

Other features of the special edition vehicle include include cloth-lined sport seats and a multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel.

According to Volkswagen the Jetta TDI Cup Street Edition will be priced around $25,000.
