Bendigo Population Reaches 100000

The population of Bendigo is set to reach 100,000 people this week making it Victoria's largest inland city. In joining the celebrations Premier of Victoria, Mr John Brumby said "I congratulate the City of Greater Bendigo on this significant milestone which epitomises regional Victoria's remarkable growth since our Government was elected in 1999 and the success of the Make it Happen in Provincial Victoria campaign," Mr Brumby said.

"With its rich culture and heritage, dynamic arts scene, job opportunities, relaxed lifestyle and proximity to Melbourne, Bendigo's growth is testimony to the terrific lifestyle on offer in provincial Victoria.

"In reaching the 100,000 population mark, Bendigo has now secured the status of being Victoria's second-largest regional city outside of Geelong - this is a great achievement."
Regional and Rural Development Minister and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan MP said "Bendigo is a vibrant regional centre and a great place to live, grow-up and raise a family. It is no surprise that more people are choosing to make Bendigo their home,"

Member for Bendigo West Bob Cameron MP said Bendigo had grown to become a thriving and dynamic regional centre. "Reaching 100,000 people is an historic milestone for the Bendigo community, demonstrating what a great place this is to live and work and the many opportunities that the region offers."
