SKANDIA GEELONG WEEK 2009
Skandia Geelong Week 2009 will be a non-stop, four-day festival commencing with racing in Melbourne, before the massive fleet, joined by visiting tall ships, heads for Corio Bay in the traditional Williamstown to Geelong race on Saturday.
The sailing program is infused with non-stop live entertainment, performances and outdoor dining along the Geelong Waterfront. The festival, which includes aerobatic displays, live music and a Fireworks spectacular, will continue throughout the Australia Day long weekend.
Skandia Geelong Week has now officially established itself as Australia's largest Keel Boat Regatta. The event was first held in 1844 and is claimed to be the oldest sporting event in Victoria. The annual Regatta is part of Victoria's maritime history and now attracts competitors and visitors from both within Australia and internationally.
Widely regarded as the Cowes Week of the Southern Hemisphere, the event attracts over 400 yachts and 4,000 competitiors who race in the waters of Corio Bay around Melbourne and Geelong.
