A Significant and PlanetSaving Difference
Creative individuals such as writers, artists, actors, singers, and designers, generally speaking, are not celebrated for their skills as political diplomats or social activists. Yet there have been times in recent history when I could not help wondering-what if they/we were? It was that curiosity (and hope perhaps?) that in part led to the establishment of Creative Thinkers International (CTI): http://www.creativethinkersintl.ning.com/
CTI is an open collective of artistically-inclined individuals who make gifts of their writings, paintings, photographs, music, and various creations even as they endeavor to earn a living from sales of the same.
The notion of such a community first occurred to me during the months leading up to the present Iraq War. At that time, literary luminaries like the poet Sam Hamill and novelist John le Carré, along with thousands of other creatively gifted individuals (not to mention millions of ordinary folks around the globe) cast their votes against war. Their reasoning and compassion was articulate enough to sway senators and Nobel Prize winners but not, ultimately, those in whose hands the final decision rested.
As the world settles into its collective global identity, I'm inclined to think the more creative among us--whether artists, housewives, writers, or gardeners--can and will play a huge role in making the transition from a consciousness restricted by regionalisms to one expanded by the ongoing reality of globalization. Humanity has learned too well that the destructive approach is not the best one for attaining progress. It's possible that a little more regard for the more creative thinkers in our world community just might make a significant and planet-saving difference.
