Passion for Fairness Urges Americans to Rent The Passion on Oscar Night Host Passion Parties

February 1, 2005 -- The organization that collected 25,000 petition signatures in support of Mel Gibson's The Passion of The Christ is expanding its campaign.

Passion for Fairness is asking its members, and all Americans, to rent The Passion of The Christ on "Oscar night," February 27th, 2005. For the especially motivated, the organization is encouraging "Passion Parties" at homes and churches across America.

"We urge all Americans to forego watching the Oscars on the night of Sunday, February 27th, 2005 and instead rent the film The Passion of The Christ that night," said organizer Patrick Hynes. "We believe this is an appropriately quiet, humble, and yet meaningful protest against Hollywood's belligerence to Mel Gibson and this powerful film."

"For many of us, this film was difficult to watch. The subject matter is gravely serious and it is always hard to consider the suffering Christ went through because of you and me. That is why we are asking you to make a special effort to watch the film on the night when many of us will harbor some of our deepest resentments," Hynes continued.

"Let's get tens of thousands of Americans from Maine to San Diego to rent and watch this powerful film one more time, absorb and meditate on its message, and do something positive with our frustration," Hynes concluded.
