World Internet Safety Day How Parents Can Keep Their Kids Safe Online

February 7, 2005 -- Internet Safety Day takes place on Tuesday, February 8, 2005. To mark the occasion, Simon Johnson, author of the book "Keep Your Kids Safe on the Internet" (McGraw-Hill / Osborne) has made a free sample chapter of his book available to visitors to his web site - http://www.keepyourkidssafe.com.

Internet Safety Day is designed to create awareness about the risks of the Internet, and to empower and educate people towards a safer information society. It is partly funded by the European Commission and is celebrated worldwide.

"The Internet is an invaluable resource, but it has its dangers," said Johnson. "Parents should take some time today to talk with their kids about some of the risks of using the Internet."

Johnson, a father of two, wrote "Keep Your Kids Safe on the Internet" in response to a lack of resources parents could use to keep their children
safe online.

"The only things I could find were technical studies that were out of date and a few generic sites that had no real substance to them."

Johnson's book offers parents solid information about protecting their children, including helpful reviews of the major Internet safety software programs.
