June 4, 2005 -- Sail Chicago offers a series of low-cost sailing instruction classes for adults, recreational sailing, racing and social events from June through October. The not for profit organization owns and operates their own fleet of sailboats from Chicago harbors.
Sail Chicago has taught thousands of persons to sail since their program began in 1958. In a typical season, over 100 students take the series of classes.

Students are taught basic seamanship and boating safety, and learn to sail a small boat on Lake Michigan with confidence. After completing the course, students may test for "skipper" status which allows them to
Other lessons for more experienced sailors are available on Rhodes 19 sailboats, and also the club's larger boats -- a 26' Grampian mini-cruiser, a 30' Shields racer and a 30' Alberg cruising sailboat.
Bob Gerber, Sail Chicago Chairman explained: "We provide competent, thorough instruction at affordable prices on a variety of sailboats. We are a not-for-profit educational and recreational community sailing organization, operating entirely on the volunteer efforts of our members."
