Austin-based Accolades PR (http://www.accoladespr.com/), a results-oriented communications firm committed to progressive strategies in public relations and marketing, is a contributing sponsor to the one-of-a-kind 2009 Flamingo-a-Go-Go Fundraising event to benefit Planet Cancer.
This year marks the third year for the organization'ss signature event, in which flamingos and pink feather boas abound. Over 800 attendees are expected at the event, along with an
impressive roster of area sponsors and a guest list that reads like the Who'ss Who of Austin. The fundraiser will be held in the courtyard atrium of the Monarch Luxury Living Apartments
on 5th Street in downtown Austin.
Planet Cancer (http://www.planetcancer.org/) is an advocacy and support community serving young adults between the ages of 18 and 40 with
cancer. This is the only cancer demographic that has not seen improvements in survival rates since 1975. Planet Cancer offers three program areas to support young adults with cancer:
online support through its Web site (www.planetcancer.org); face-to-face support through its exemplary weekend retreat programs; and advocacy and
awareness efforts around the country.
Accolades PR is assisting with the myriad of public relations activities and details required to publicize the event to the Greater Austin area. The PR firm is offering its services for
free in order to support this charitable organization and the troop of volunteers that make it happen each year.
We are proud to work with such an amazing group of people to support this extremely worthy cause, said Cynthia Baker, founder of Accolades Public Relations. We were pleased that we could
utilize both our PR and social media expertise to build an online community that will continue to support the fundraiser and charity over time.
For the several weeks, Planet Cancer'ss famous pink flamingos have been circling Austin in a flight path toward Flamingo-a-Go-Go. The flamingos have made appearances at MaximumFX Salon
Spa, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, RunTex, and Whole Foods. Their final destination is the Monarch Luxury Living Apartments where the finest local cuisine and drinks will be served by
some of the best restaurants in town. Moonshine, The Belmont, Opal Divine'ss, Sweet Leaf Tea, and Skyy Spirits are just a few of the sponsors for this event. There will also be an
exclusive private performance by local music icon Kasy Crowley (http://kacycrowley.com/), herself a young adult survivor of cancer and DJ Manny will
be pumping out the music on the dance floor. Silent Auction items abound including round trip airline tickets, hotel, and passes to the San Diego Zoo; as well as donations by Milk+Honey
Spa, Moxie, Gallery D, Kirk Furniture 's38; Design, and Wolfgang Puck among many others.
The guest list this year includes Eric Shanteau (http://www.usaswimming.org/USASWeb/DesktopModules/BioViewManaged.aspxpersonid=902aafbb-7f55-4ba1-918f-4477e1642e3b's38;TabId=388's38;Mid=597),
an Olympic Swimmer who learned he had testicular cancer just before the 2008 Olympics but, under doctor supervision, delayed treatment to participate in the games. On March 11, the
rehabilitated Shanteau broke the pool record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Austin Grand Prix. Other guests include, Tyler Sieswerda, nightly news anchor at KVUE Austin, and Paul
Carrozza, founder of RunTex. Other corporate and media sponsors include Mix 94.7, Hulsey IP, Austin Ventures and News 8 Austin. The full list of sponsors can be viewed on the
Flamingo-a-Go-Go Web site (www.FlamingoAGoGo.com).
They have done such an amazing job of getting the word out in past years, but with the increase in popularity of the party we saw that our services could really take them to the next
level, said Monica Hampton, Accolades PR Specialist and the PR committee chair of Flamingo-a-Go-Go. We had the tools, the desire and the know-how; and we had a passion for their mission.
It was an easy fit.
