Business networking has been steadily increasing in popularity over the past two decades and with the economic instability that is affecting much of the world, networking to generate business is more important than ever. In 2007, BNI, the world's largest business networking organization, generated 5.5 million referrals for its members--an amount which translates into 2.2 billion (U.S. Dollars) in monetary value. Just last month, BNI opened chapters in two new countries, Kenya and South Korea, marking the existence of BNI in 39 countries.
In January of 2008, Kenya witnessed the worst political crisis since its independence and investors were pulling out in droves. However, E. Muraguri and Bijay Shah, the National Directors
for BNI Kenya, saw this as an opportunity for BNI. There couldn't be a better time for business people to see the need to get together and support each other in true Givers Gain
style--Givers Gain being BNI's founding philosophy which is based on the universal Law of Reciprocity (what goes around comes around and the more you give, the more you will receive). On
April 22, 2008, over 150 visitors from the business community in Kenya turned up as early as 6:15 a.m. to launch the BNI Biashara Bora (Swahili for "Booming Business") chapter, and two
more BNI chapters are currently in the making in Kenya.
On the same day, at 7 a.m. in South Korea, the first South Korean BNI chapter was launched by Haewon Choi, the BNI National Director there. An intensely interested audience of 50 visitors
attended the chapter launch and as a result, a second South Korean BNI chapter is now in the works and will be started by BNI Assistant Director Je Kim.
BNI is a proven system that helps business people generate more business through word-of-mouth networking, regardless of geographic location. With BNI now in 39 countries, and with plans
to open BNI chapters in even more countries in 2008, it is evident that the organization is heading a business networking program which is useful to business professionals across the
globe--especially in times of economic uncertainty.
