How Not to Launch a Corporate Podcast The Latest in Oneupwebs Podcast...

"With 10 million downloads last year and nearly all of the world's leading brands participating, the pressures on organizations to catch up and launch their own corporate podcasts are immense," says Oneupweb CEO Lisa Wehr. "Unfortunately, there are more wrong ways to produce and publish a podcast than there are right." Oneupweb's latest One for the Money episode, The Poisoned Podcast, illustrates just a few of the things that can and do go wrong when companies look to shortcuts and inexperienced resources.

The Poisoned Podcast is the third in Oneupweb's new podcast series, One for the Money. The series, launched this spring by the integrated online marketing firm, highlights some of the work of PodGarden, a division of Oneupweb dedicated to the production, hosting and tracking of corporate podcasts. Using Oneupweb's own staff as its amateur acting company and a 40's style radio drama format, the series tries to offer a different, lighter approach to some all-too-serious online marketing issues. Many of the scenarios described in the series are derived from actual experiences of Oneupweb clients. Episodes can be downloaded from Oneupweb.com and Podgarden.com (http://www.oneupweb.com), or accessed by searching "Oneupweb" on iTunes and other leading podcast portals.

"With the advent of Google's Universal search, it's never been more important for online marketers to add well-optimized new media such as podcasts to their marketing mix," Wehr points out. "The effective podcaster with a viral following can add quality links, which at the very least can improve their website's position on the search results pages."

This latest One for the Money installment is again based upon some actual experiences of Oneupweb clients. These companies started but stopped podcasting after being discouraged by the experience and disappointed by the results. Inappropriate talent and production sources, hosting difficulties, the excessive cost of making corrections, problems of tracking all user behavior in iTunes and other major portals, and the difficulty of integrating the podcasts with other marketing and outreach efforts are all issues addressed in The Poisoned Podcast. The solution: find one source with a proven track record of addressing all these concerns successfully.

"We hear it constantly from clients: 'we know we should start podcasting, but we've tried, (or they know someone who tried), and had problems,' observes Lisa Wehr. "But we've never had a podcasting client who has regretted the experience once we've shown them how to do it right. The podcasts have improved the companies' online presence and opened a whole new line of communications with their marketplace."

At the end of this latest radio drama, as in the past, Oneupweb CEO Lisa Wehr and Business Development Director Tim Kauffold discuss the lessons learned in this episode, as they direct listeners to some free resources (http://www.oneupweb.com/oftm) that will help them learn more about podcasting.
