Local online advertising, long looked on as a potential resource for Internet shoppers, has yet to deliver on that promise. Online local ad spending growth is huge's8212;but the growth
emerges from such a small base that local ads makes up only 8% of online spend this year. Even when local online ad spending jumps by nearly 51% next year to $2 billion, it still will not
quite be 10% of the 2007 ad spending estimate of $20.3 billion.
Local Online Advertising has grown from $500,000,000 in 2004 to an estimated $1,340,000,000 in 2006.
USLINX.com estimates that it will top $5 Billion by 2010. (based on stats from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).
In local ad spending when the online and offline figures are compared, shows a big difference in share projections for 2008 when local ads will make up nearly 35% of total media, and
online local ads at about 12% of Internet ad spending.

Too few brick and mortar merchants understand the Internet sufficiently enough to dive into online advertising, but more and more are taking the plunge.
But it takes two to tango, and that means that the local merchants and local users have to converge to make this the power house that it can be. Broadband is showing up in more and more
homes and businesses, and as it spreads the local marketers had best be in a position to take advantage of the trend, or the big guys will steamroll them into submission once again.
Right now paid search is the force driving local advertising, contributing an estimated 55% of the total of local advertising expenditures.
