A marketing blog that reveals what works and what doesn's8217;t began June 6, 2006, on Google's8217;s popular blogspot.com. Called Marketing Pops and Flops, the series started out naming
names. Early readers noticed a change in the subtitle from 's8220;Mind your marketing manners! We name names,'s8221; to 's8220;Learn and earn! What makes one company succeed wildly while
another flounders Keep up with one marketing maven'ss observations about what pops and what flops.'s8221;
So far, the blog has named only one company specifically, an Indian restaurant in Las Vegas that impressed the author by mailing a hand-written thank you note that arrived before the
marketing guru returned from the Vegas trip. In the next entry, the commentator capitulated to friends who persuade him he has too much to lose if a slander suit is brought against him,
so he should speak in general terms.
Whether the blog resumes naming the giants and goof-offs in marketing or not, the small business or entrepreneur can learn from the incidents and ideas reported. For example, when you buy
groceries, does the bagger talk to you or to the cashier Had you ever considered the bagger is a front-line marketing person and whatever he or she focuses on will affect you, the
consumer If you are a business owner, have you considered your assistant or cleaning staff an integral part of your marketing visibility
It isn's8217;t apparent who author's8217;s the blog, though he alludes to running a corporate collateral materials business in Los Angeles's8212;a very competitive marketplace's8212;for
over a decade. Perhaps in the world of sales and schemes, it is better that we not know the identity of 's8220;Mr. E.,'s8221; as he calls himself, but if we's8217;re going to do more than
learn about good marketing strategies, if we's8217;re going to improve customer service, then we hope 's8220;Marketing Pops and Flops's8221; will not only kick derriere, but also name
names!
