OMS Survey Finds Higher Share of Budget is Committed to Online

More than 40 per cent of respondents now spend at least 26 per cent or more of their budget on online marketing - double that of the previous year. The top 14 per cent of spenders now commit three quarters of their marketing budget to online.

Mobile and Search Engine Optimisation were identified by respondents as the key growth areas, with email continuing to score highly.

There was good news for digital agencies too. Forty per cent of respondents said they planned to use a digital agency in the next 12 months, many citing online campaign planning and search marketing as areas they actively wanted to know more about. Viral, blogging and online point of sale were also highlighted as subjects that respondents wanted to understand better.

The OMS survey, sent to hundreds of marketers who have pre-registered to attend the show, follows hot on the heels of research by the Internet Advertising Bureau which saw a 65 per cent growth in UK online ad spend and a 79 per cent increase in spend on paid search in 2005. Indeed share of budget for online advertising has surpassed radio and outdoor advertising.

's8220;We's8217;ve been overwhelmed by the commitment to online shown in the survey results,'s8221; says Sally Pugmire, Event Director for the Online Marketing Show. 's8220;Marketeers are taking areas like mobile and search very seriously when considering their budgets,'s8221; she adds.

When asked to come up with the question they would most like answered by an online marketing expert, entries ranged from 's8220;How can I make my email campaigns more successful's8221;, to 's8220;What are the killer techniques for advertising in the blogosphere's8221;.

Anyone wanting to know the answers to those questions should consider going to the Online Marketing Show, which takes place on 7-8 June at the Royal Horticultural Halls, 80 Vincent Square, London or visit www.onlinemarketingshow.co.uk to apply for a press pass, an up-to-date exhibitor list or to view the Conference Programme.
