Marotta Controls on Newly Commissioned LPD21 USS New York

Marotta Controls is proud to announce that its valves and manifolds have been designed into various systems on the USS New York, (LPD-21), the newest Amphibious Transport Dock Ship that was commissioned today. Marotta Controls valves and manifolds are being used throughout the ship, including the New York's ballast system.

The ship is named New York in honor of the state, the city, and the victims of September 11. Steel salvaged from the World Trade Center wreckage -- an estimated 7.5 tons -- was melted and formed to make the bow stem of the ship. Use of this steel symbolizes the spirit and resiliency of the people of New York, whose official motto is "Never Forget".

"For more than 60 years we have provided the most advanced fluid control solutions to the Navy," said Michael Leahan, Vice President and Chief Sales Officer of Marotta Controls. "We are proud of our high achievements and continuous contributions to the force that keeps America safe."

Marotta's valves and manifolds, (RM11FA-2, PRV58SA-3 and RV77FM) control the variable ballast system to lower and raise the stern of the ship into the water to permit the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) to exit and return to the New York, as well as being a vital part of the fuel inerting system. In addition to the ballast and inerting systems, the MV286A chilled water valves are used in the air conditioning and electronics cooling systems.

The USS New York is the fifth amphibious dock ship in the Navy's new San Antonio class that will support the Marine Corps "mobility triad," which consists of the landing craft air cushion vehicle (LCAC), the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) and the Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft (MV-22). New York will support amphibious, special operations and expeditionary warfare missions.
