Vyalex Unveils Its Total Technology Pipeline Initiative

Vyalex Management Solutions, Inc. (Vyalex), a minority-owned prime contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense, announced today that it has developed the Vyalex Total Technology Pipeline (V-TTP) initiative to spark students' interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines, provide support for their STEM studies, and help them find interesting and rewarding careers in those fields.

The Vyalex initiative responds to the national need for the U.S. to increase the rate at which it produces scientists, technicians, engineers, and mathematicians. Vyalex is committed to providing support to students that will empower them to pursue successful careers in science and technology.

"Our concept involves working with students at all levels of the educational system," says Al Leandre, Founder, President and CEO of Vyalex who won the 2007 Maryland Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award and the 2008 Black Engineer of the Year Entrepreneur Award. "For primary, middle and secondary school students, we work to coordinate support from diverse community elements. At the post-secondary and graduate levels, we organize internships and on-the-job training for STEM and other students at major universities including the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and minority serving institutions."

Vyalex operates V-TTP in partnership with C & M Solutions, LLC of Lexington Park, MD, a contracting firm operated by Agnes Butler and Wanda Fenwick, which has more than six decades of combined experience in logistics and program management, and community involvement.

A key component of Vyalex's Total Technology Pipeline agenda involves organizing internships and on-the-job training.

Vyalex administered the 2007 Engineering Summer Institute, which ran for 10 weeks at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in Patuxent River, MD, in cooperation with NAVAIR, and the Morgan State University Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. School of Engineering. Ten interns from the Mitchell School of Engineering participated in the program. Two of the participants are now full-time NAVAIR employees after receiving BS degrees in Engineering.

Vyalex is also administering programs under which Mitchell School of Engineering students, with faculty direction, research issues of concern to NAVAIR and a private company.

Vyalex has received a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide interns who are members of minority groups and other disadvantaged groups to DoD offices in the Washington Metropolitan Area this summer. The Department of Defense Centralized Intern Program will begin in June and run for 8, 9, or 10 weeks. Applications can be downloaded from the V-TTP website at www.vmsttp.com.

The Department of Defense Centralized Intern Program will place students who are members of minorities and other underrepresented groups in paid internships at DoD agencies in the Washington Metropolitan Area. The program, which will expand to include other DoD facilities nationwide, is seen as a way of broadening students' horizons and providing them with future skills, whatever their choice of career.

Leandre noted that it's becoming increasingly clear that the U.S. must produce many more of its own STEM personnel if they are to be more than a training facility for other countries' scientists, technicians, engineers, and mathematicians. Application on a broader scale of the programs of the Vyalex Total Technology Pipeline can help the U.S. attain that goal.

"We believe expanding V-TTP will benefit both our company and our country," says Leandre. "It will help to provide our company the technical personnel we need to service the Department of Defense and our other public and private clients. It will also help to provide our country the technical personnel it needs to compete successfully in the global economy of the 21st Century."
