Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD), which offers state of the art embedded database technologies, today announced that PLATO AG has selected RDM Server for their next generation SCIO-Engineering - Software for risk and knowledge management
PLATO AG will use RDM Server to manage all key product and process data inside their SCIO-Engineering - Software for risk and knowledge management. PLATO AG's primary applications service
a wide array of industries, including automotive, aviation, medical technology, electronics, plant and mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and chemical sectors.
"Risk and knowledge management is a complex problem, and with large scale engineering projects using a database engine that supports complex data modeling, through the network model,
allowed us to concentrate on our product rather than the data management," says CTO Marcus Schorn, who is the member of PLATO's Managing Board responsible for PLATO product development.
"The result was a more efficient development cycle, superior application performance, and faster time to market with better quality. We are a long time user of RDM databases and when we
needed to deploy a multi-user scalable version of SCIO for huge engineering organizations RDM Server 8.0, was the obvious choice. With a defined upgrade path, we can build on our existing
investment in intellectual capital, by re-using our existing code base while taking advantage of the higher end functionality of RDM Server."
"Birdstep has been focusing on the interoperability and compatibility between our products to allow customers like PLATO AG to start out small and grow into our high end products,"
commented Duncan Bates, Vice President of Product Management at Birdstep. "With a well defined upgrade path, moving both the application development and customer base of a RDM Embedded
based application to RDM Server is done in a matter of days, and opens up a new world of functionality."
About The Raima Database Manager Family (http://www.birdstep.com/Database/Products)
Raima released the first version of the Raima embedded database in 1984. Since then the family has grown into three successful embedded database products. RDM Embedded pioneered the
embedded market space under the name dbVista. Building on the success of RDM Embedded, Raima released the product in a client/server configuration under the name Velocis, now called RDM
Server. Augmenting the two is RDM Mobile, ideally suited for consumer electronics and low cost mobile devices such as set-top boxes, mp3 players etc. Please find free SDK downloads of the
RDM Products here (http://www.birdstep.com/database/Products/RDM-Embedded/SDK-Download/).
