Key Black Oakland Area Professionals Join Mayor Dellums and Congresswoman Barbara Lee to Recognize World Court Judge Abdul Ko

Noted Judge Dr. Abdul G. Koroma of Sierra Leone, Judge of the International Court of Justice at The Hague and Jurist will visit the Bay Area April 17 to 20 to address the 2008 Annual ASIL/Fulbright Symposium and attend a dinner in his honor in Oakland it was announced today by Chris Okeke, professor Golden Gate University. This year marks the 18th year for the forum.

"We are pleased to welcome His Excellency Judge Koroma to the bay area. His work and accomplishments in the field of law are exemplary. It is with great honor that we are holding a dinner to mark his historic trip," said Okeke.

Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone the Honorable Koroma became a member of the International Court of Justice in February 1994 which has its seat in The Hague, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. He attended King's College University of London.

The importance of The World Court is unparalleled. Having had its seat in the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands) since 1946, its predecessor, the Permanent Court of International Justice, occupied from 1922 the same premises, made available to it by the Carnegie Foundation, which owns and administers the Peace Palace.

On Friday April, 19, he will be participating and keynoting the Golden Gate University School of Law. Followed by the grand dinner reception on Saturday April 19, where an open invitation has been extended to the public. The affair will be held at Scotts Sea Food Restaurant, Jack London Square, Oakland, California. Time: 7 p.m. Cost: $75 per head; $150 couple; sponsored table $1,000.

"There are several thousand professional Africans living and working in the bay area, who recognize the significance of his trip. We are expecting a large turnout for the celebration dinner. As a fellow native and professional we realize the importance of his position and want to honor him for his accomplishments. Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums, Congresswoman Barbara Lee 9th District, and 16th District Assemblyman Sandre R. Swanson have prepared proclamations acknowledging his efforts for fairness and justice," said Osagie Enabulele event coordinator and Oakland Parks and Recreation Commissioner.

Seating is very limited. Admission will be made strictly on the basis of first come first served. Payment should be made by either check or cash to any of the names listed hereunder as soon as possible. Payments will not be accepted at the gate. Admittance to the event will be strictly based on the comprehensive list of the prepaid guests.
