Tiffeny Forrest Named Executive Director of Harlem YMCA Meet and Greet...

The YMCA of Greater New York (http://ymcanyc.org/index.phpid=1093). Forrest brings seven years of YMCA operations and membership experience, including most recently as Executive Director of the Oak Park Branch of the Lansing (MI) YMCA. A Michigan native, Forrest credits a BS in psychology and MBA from Louisiana's Grambling State University in her success in working with community residents and YMCA members as well as leading the day-to-day operations of a multi-faceted YMCA branch like the Harlem YMCA. The greater Harlem community is invited to meet Forrest at an open house reception on Friday, August 3, from 7:30 - 10:00 a.m.

"I'm excited to be joining a community so full of energy and endless possibilities," Forrest said. "I want the Harlem YMCA to be the best it can be. The community will be proud of its YMCA and feel that we're providing the resources to meet their needs."

She added that this experience will be critical as she works to enhance the Harlem YMCA's commitment to the health of the community -- in spirit, mind and body. "A healthy lifestyle is the most important thing in any community, and we will work to further combat the specific challenges the community faces, including childhood obesity, poor nutrition, diabetes and general inactivity."

"Tiffeny's record of achievement, high energy and eagerness to match the vision of our YMCA to the needs and desires of the community have distinguished her as the best new leader for the Harlem YMCA, from a national pool of more than a hundred applicants," said Gregg Walker, Vice President of Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions for Viacom and Chair of the Harlem YMCA Board of Managers. "We're excited by her arrival, and the Board is poised to help her fill the large shoes Elaine leaves."

"Tiffeny brings a special enthusiasm to her new role and will be an excellent addition to our team," said Jack Lund (http://ymcanyc.org/index.phpid=992), who was promoted in February to Sr. Executive Director of Fund Development for the YMCA of Greater New York. Edmonds will continue to work closely with the branch, focusing on capital fund raising and the Harlem YMCA's noted Black Achievers in Industry program.

"It is with great pleasure that we welcome Tiffeny as the new Executive Director of the Harlem YMCA. She is taking over the reins during an exciting period of growth, both in the history of the Harlem Y and in the Village of Harlem as a whole," said Edmonds, who has led the Harlem YMCA since 1996. "I'm reminded of Victor Hugo's quote, 'Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.' We're proud to have Tiffeny to help lead us into this new era of service to our community."

For 75 years, the Harlem YMCA's mission has remained constant: to provide a safe haven and enhance the quality of life for residents of the Greater Harlem community. As we celebrate our history, we are also looking to the future, and our continued work to create an enduring legacy of building healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

The YMCA of Greater New York is a community service organization which promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body, welcoming all people, with a focus on youth. Supported in part through contributions to the Strong Kids Campaign, the YMCA provides membership assistance and scholarships to programs like summer camp, child care and teen activities, so that no one is turned away due to an inability to pay.
