Two titles published by SmileyBooks in 2008--Tapping the Power Within: A Path to Self-Empowerment for Women 20th Anniversary Edition by Iyanla Vanzant and Hope on A Tightrope: Words 's38; Wisdom by Cornel West--were nominated for NAACP Image Awards. The official announcement of the list of nominees was made at a press conference in Beverly Hills, California on January 7, 2009. The NAACP Image Awards is the nation'ss premier event celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts. Tapping the Power Within was nominated in the Outstanding Literary Work-Instructional category and Hope on a Tightrope was nominated in the Outstanding Literary Work-Non-fiction category. Both Tapping the Power Within and Hope on a Tightrope feature an original CD and are Black Expressions Book Club selections.
