In the National Capital Region, in Washington, DC, there is a shortage of beds for victims of Domestic Violence. Right here in Washington, CD there are only 48 shelter beds to support on average 175 women a week seeking refuge from domestic abuse. In the United States, a woman is abused or battered by her husband, boyfriend, or live-in partner every 15 seconds. By the time you read this article, ten women -- too many will have been abused. On Saturday, September 29th, 2007 at 8:00AM, you have an opportunity to take a stand against domestic abuse. The Women of Freedom Foundation, is hosting a 5K Run/Walk for Freedom at Hains
Point-East Potomac Park 1100 Ohio Drive SW, Washington DC at the "Awakening." Ms. Murphy, Founder of the Women of Freedom Foundation is determined to help women. Her goal is to raise
$100,000 to open the physical doors to Freedom House. The proceeds from this event will support Freedom House, a residential facility for women in transition due to domestic violence.The
Women of Freedom Foundation is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization that provides refuge, healing and support for women in transition. Freedom House treats women with dignity.
Women of Freedom Foundation (WFF) is a grass roots faith-based, 501 c (3) nonprofit organization providing support groups, seminars, workshops, and counseling on issues that are
significant to the needs and well being of women. WFF facilitates monthly meetings to discuss and address issues such as domestic violence, divorce, depressing, addiction stress in the
workplace and family relationships. WFF was established to provide women in transition with a place of refuge where they can heal support one another and openly discuss personal
challenges that are inhibiting them from living a safe and fulfilling life.
Women of Freedom Foundation was founded in August of 2000 by Rayshel Murhpy, who is a survivor of domestic abuse and for the past 6 years has committed her life, time, experiences and
resources to helping other victims. She includes women with addictions, homeless population, victims of elder abuse and children living in homes of domestic abuse. Two years ago Murphy
officially launched the opening of Freedom House.
