Japanese-based auto manufacturer Toyota has recently announced its entry into NASCAR competition. One factory-supported team headed by Michael Waltrip has announced it will field at least
two cars in 2007. Waltrip will drive one of the cars, and the team recently signed former Cup champion Dale Jarrett to drive a second car.
NASCAR has been dominated by American-based manufacturers, but Toyota is expected to shake things up by investing a lot of money in winning races. Next season Toyota will be fielding the
Camry to compete with the Ford Fusion, Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Dodge Charger. Although this will be the first time the Camry will compete in NASCAR, ironically it has been the
best-selling car in the U.S. in eight of the last nine years.
