Cody Terpening wins New Mexico Wool Growers scholarship



Cody Terpening of Carlsbad, N.M., received the 2005 New Mexico Wool Growers scholarship during the group's annual convention in Roswell, N.M., July 16, according to a story in the August issue of New Mexico Stockman magazine on-line at www.aaalivestock.com

Terpening began a sheep project as a youth, showing a lamb at the Eddy County Fair Booster show and for the past 10 years he has show lambs at his county fair, the Eastern New Mexico State Fair and the New Mexico State Fair. He has also been involved in wool and livestock judging at local, district, state and national levels.

Cody plans to major in animal science or environmental science at New Mexico State University. He plans to find a career in agriculture upon graduation.

He was in the top ten percent of his graduating class at Carlsbad High School, maintaining a 4.6 grade point average. An all-around student, he is a national honor society member, a UNM Scholar, Elk student of the month and participated in football, basketball and science fair projects where he has won many awards.

Cody says that as a result of his 4-H and FFA experience and community service activities, he has learned to be a community leader. Many vital skills that will help him in the future are communication, teamwork, respect, leadership by example, listening, determination, dedication and courage. He believes he will use these skills every day when he gets out of school and explores the real world. He is the son of Lynn and Jan Terpening.
