"My husband made fun of me for signing up, thinking it was all a joke," says Debbie C., a stay-at-home mom in Tallahassee, Florida. "But in the end, I had the last laugh. I told him: 'I just got paid to go to the bathroom!'"

One aspect that turns away many potential volunteers is the fact that everything must be documented--with photographic proof. "Many people don't want to show their face," says The Colonista, "which is one of our requirements, to show that these are real people trying real products."

Still, volunteers are lining up to blog about their experiences. One recent volunteer, Carolyn G., tried a product called Puranol Five Day Detoxifying Cleanser, with comments like, "Boy, this stuff really works!" and "It really hits you after mealtime!"

In addition to testimonials, The Colonista posts daily blogs on a variety of health-related topics, from homeopathy to homemade juice recipes.
