A Melbourne based architectural firm that designed the new Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre and Rod Laver Arena, which are being used in the Commonwealth Games, are now exporting their
stadia skills to the world.
Architectural firm Peddle Thorp recently designed the TEDA stadium constructed for the Tianjin (Tientsin) Economic Development Area in China which is now being considered for early-round
football matches for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The stadium boasts a high-tech appearance and an innovative cable-supported roof structure.
With seating for 35,000 in the grandstand and a further 1000 capacity in corporate boxes, the majority of seating is on the East and West sides of the playing field - the primary viewing
areas.
It was one of the first in China to have a field sized to meet the standards set by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
It meets World Cup competition as well as the standards set by the International Olympic Committee.
The stadium profile has been design to achieve excellent viewing lines to the playing area. The design is an expression of the latest technology in services, architecture and
engineering.
Peddle Thorp has also designed stadia such as Vodaphone Arena in Melbourne and the new Eastern Stand at Skilled Stadium in Geelong.
