If you're not sure what the FTR500 is, it is a $5 private tournament held each month at Full Tilt Poker. But in addition to that, FlopTurnRiver adds $500 to the prize pool, every single month! This can really return some great cash for your $5 investment! This private tournament has been running since June of 2007, so that is $5500 that FTR has given away to its members! All you have to do to participate is sign up to Full Tilt Poker using FTR's Full Tilt Poker Referral Code (http://www.flopturnriver.com/reviews/Online-Poker-FullTilt.php) "FLOPTURNRIVER" and be a registered poker forum (http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/forum/) member.
Despite being rescheduled to the 15th due to Full Tilt having connectivity issues on April 5th, the FTR500 still saw 39 players register for their shot at the extra $500. The total prize pool ended up being $695, paying 5 places and awarding first place a huge $278! In addition to the $500 added funds, FTR also awarded the winner and the bubble boy with free official Full Tilt clothing (http://www.flopturnriver.com/Free-Full-Tilt-Poker-Clothing.php)! You don't even have to make the money to win prizes!
April's FTR500 started off fast paced, and there were already 30% of the field eliminated by the first break! FTR veterans bigspenda73, swiggidy, givememyleg, Warpe and others were among the players competing. As play continued, all eyes were on givememyleg as he started dominating the tables and was the early chip leader. However, it was a roller coaster ride for him as he went from chip leader, to almost out, back to chip leader, and short stacked again! This high variance play is pretty swingy, but when it was down to the final table he sat 3rd in chips. Also featured at the final table was last months winner, MatteyRick, trying to defend his win being 4th in chips, and FTR's Jack Sawyer. The chip leader when the final table started was none other than FTR's thizzSantaCruz who has a very sizable lead.
Just as the tournament had been earlier, the action was very fast and just three hands in we saw an incredible 3 way allin. Shortstacked, lypoker found a hand and went with it, pushing AJo, to which thxscientist reshoved with the same hand AJo. However, last month's champ MatteyRick woke up with AKo and called the all-in. An ace flopped and no other help came, which gave MatteyRick a huge triple up and now had command of the table. This hand eliminated lynpoker in 9th making him the first casualty. Shortly after, xKaCeYx finished 8th, and chikiloka 7th.
With 6 players left we were now on the bubble, and no one wants to finish one out of the money! Unfortunately for thxscientist, he pushed a good hand on the button, AJo, but he ran into the KK of givememyleg. He found no help and finished in 6th place. But he didn't walk away with nothing, he was awarded the bubble boy prize, and won himself a free Full Tilt Poker Hoodie! Now the players were relieved to be in the money, and thizzSantaCruz sat atop with twice as many chips as any of the other players. First to go would be FTR's Jack Sawyer, who pushed his A3 into the A8 of MatteyRick and found no help. He finished in 5th place for $63.
Down to 4 way action, it seemed most players had trouble adjusting to short handed play, and givememyleg starting taking advantage of this. He was raising a lot of hands and accumulated the chip lead. It seemed Porcu314ne was unable to be eliminated as he survived 3 or 4 allins, but finally met his doom when his steal attempt with 75s was caught by MatteyRick with QT. Porcu314ne finished in 4th for $83.
With 3 people left, givememyleg had over half the chips in play and it was now his tournament to lose. MatteyRick and thizzSantaCruz were pretty much even. There was a lot of raising, and the chip lead was going back and forth. Santa had a double up from givememyleg, then proceeded to double up MatteyRick when his A9 was cracked by Matt's A4. Now it was a dead heat and nearly everyone had the same chips. Givememyleg continued his aggressive style, and again worked his way back up to having half the chips in play. Then a big confrontation happened when MatteyRick and Santa got allin preflop, Matt holding 77 and Santa 22. It looked as if MatteyRick would be going heads up to defend his last months victory, but Santa spiked a nasty 2 on the river and MatteyRick finished in 3rd place for $111. Quite the accomplishment in back to back FTR500s!
Heads up only lasted 10 hands, and both players were nearly dead even when play started. Givememyleg started off by re-raising a few of Santa's button raises, and Santa needed to fight back. In the final hand, givememyleg raised, Santa re-raised, and givememyleg pushed. Santa made the call with 33 and unfortunately for him, leg had 99 and his hand held up. 2nd place finisher thizzSantaCruz earned $160, and April's champion givememyleg won $278 for this first place finish! Congratulations to everyone who won money or gear in April's FTR500!
