During a recent interview with Heather Elitou of Neshee Publications Milner was asked if she thought as an African American she should write only about the African American experience. " I am a proud African American but I will not limit myself to writing about the African American experience". In a follow-up question after the interview Milner made this statement. "My writing will not be defined by the color of my skin."
