Anda Kubis creates layered, floating pulses of luminosity on her canvases. Her works emanate a glow that can be attributed to the philosophical sublime or more immediately suggest enticing radiant surfaces that bring pleasure to objects designed for popular use. Vibrant iPod's8217;s and cell phones captivate Anda Kubis and she is influenced by current architecture that uses light to defy structure 's8211; for example that of William Alsop.

Vancouver, BC June 23, 2006 -- As a painter Anda Kubis is aware of how colour and composition create desire. In her newest work she uses form and colour to create layered, floating pulses of luminosity. In our physical and virtual landscape light is integral in the delivery of visual communication. Her works emanate a glow that can be attributed to the philosophical sublime or more immediately suggest enticing radiant surfaces that bring pleasure to objects designed for popular use. Vibrant iPod's8217;s and cell phones captivate Kubis and she is influenced by current architecture that uses light to defy structure 's8211; for example that of William Alsop.



Within the paintings areas of colour compress and merge like magnetic forces - causing the compositions to jostle with tension. Kubis intentionally invites external associations into her work as a means of a creating a regenerative dialogue with Modernism's8217;s purist vocabulary. She makes these paintings as a way of openly engaging utopian aspirations with a questioning yet optimistic eye.



Anda Kubis holds a Master of Fine Arts from York University, Toronto Canada. Her paintings have been widely exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the country. Anda Kubis is a professor at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Toronto, Canada.
