Asia Minor (2402-B Rice Blvd), a new chic Art Collectibles Shop featuring fine art product hand-crafted exclusively in Turkey (Anatolia or Asia Minor), opens in Rice Village this
December.
A Grand Opening cocktail reception will be held on Wednesday February 8, 2006 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
The collectibles of Asia Minor includes rare 100% silk rugs from Hereke; fine reproductions of 16th century Ottoman under-the-glaze ceramic ware from Iznik (Nicea); decorative gold-and
platinum-plated glassware from Beykoz; under-the-glaze hand-painted porcelain from Kutahya and embroidered silk spreads from Bursa among other unique items.
The products artfully display pre-historic (Anatolian), Seljuk, Ottoman and contemporary Turkish motifs, which have adorned various expressive media from calligraphic art and textiles to
decorative and architectural stone and wood work.
Owners Kamuran Kadipasaoglu, PhD, Steve H Goodson and Sukran Kadipasaoglu, PhD share a passion for the land known as the cradle of civilization. The trio, all coming from learned
professions, has partnered to bring the art of their beloved Turkey to Houston.
To help educate the public on the craftsmanship from this region, as well as the product available, in-store lectures will be held periodically given by artists, academicians and art
enthusiasts (including the owners.) "Attribution by Motif, Color and Design in Turkish Tapestry" will be held Wednesday January 18, 2006 at 10:30 am and again at 6:30 pm. Space is
limited, reservations are strongly encouraged.
