What would a Thai person without much exposure to Western culture think of a movie like Alain Renais' "LAnne dernire Marienbad"
That's very much how Scene4 reviewer, Renate Stendhal saw Tropical Malady (Sud Pralad), the Thai film by Apichatpong Weerasethakul that has just opened in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After winning numerous awards, among them the Jury Award last year at Cannes, the film apparently has already gained cult status.
Stendhal writes a featured monthly column in Scene4, the International Magazine of Performing Arts and Media, which has over 140,000 readers worldwide.
Scene4's August issue also includes an array of reviews, commentaries and articles on Lorena Feijoo, Definition of Ballerina, Gertrude Stein, New York Theatre,Debussy, Robert Wilson's I
La Galigo, War of the Worlds, Orson Welles, Amir Haddad, T na Rua, theatre, dance, radio, and includes a new play by the reclusive playwright, Iri Kopal at www.scene4.com.
