Tippi Toes -- Teachers are applauding the recent Tippi Toes presentation, which was broadcast to schools across the state of Texas."
Children across the state of Texas were thrilled to meet the adorable pink dancing turtle, Tippi Toes. This event was held for Kindergarten through third grade students, and the response
continues to be overwhelming. While the children listened to the highly anticipated book, "Pink Ballet Shoes", they also danced, sang and made a nutritious snack while being educated on
exercise and nutrition. This program aired to over 6,000 children across Texas.
Letters continue to pour and the feedback is extremely positive.
- "The show was one of the best that I've seen so far."
- "The kids really appreciated getting to stand up and dance. We really thought it was done well"
- "She did a wonderful job with the kinder kids, kept them engaged and active"
Tippi Toes is more than a pretty face and a pink tutu. Creators Adam and Sarah Nuse have been kid-testing the lovable Tippi Toes characters via dance schools and with the first state-wide
read just completed, they are relishing in the results of the positive feedback. The couples goal in creating Tippi Toes is to encourage children to be physically active, make healthy
food choices and most importantly, to have fun. Like no other time in history, there is an unsettling concern about today's child -- a concern about the health of today's youth. The
following two statistics paint the daunting, but accurate, picture:
- As of 2002, 16% of children ages 6-19 were overweight, which is up 5% from the preceding 8 years. It is assumed that now five years later, the percentage of overweight children is even
higher, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.
- And the future -- it doesn't look much better. The International Journal of Pediatric Obesity states that by the year 2010, it is expected that over half of children living will be
considered obese.
Sarah Nuse and her team, are fighting back by using original music, engaging characters and drawing from her own extensive dance background, Miss Sarah is on a mission to help America's
kids live healthy, happy and fun-filled lives. Through storytelling, silly songs and fun dance moves, Tippi Toes gets kids (and parents) on their feet and moving to that Tippi Toes beat.
When the dancing stops, it's time for "Megan's Munchies." Miss Megan, a registered dietitian shows kids and caregivers how to prepare deliciously healthy snacks in a highly kid-friendly
activity segment. For the statewide read, children joined in while Miss Megan taught children a fun and silly snack, turning an apple into an eatable ladybug.
"Good information that they could use in making better choices in nutrition and exercise"
Tippi's Tunes, a CD of original dance music for kids, will be hitting retail shelves this summer, with a storybook due out shortly after. An animated Tippi Toes project is already in
development with Emmy-Award winning Wonderlens Studios ( www.lightwavelab.com ) who's past projects include Nickelodeon's Oscar nominated, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.
