DMG Music Association, Inc. (DMG) and its President, Gregory Cherninsky, received notice last week from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors that DMG is a recipient of funding from
the Los Angeles County Arts Commission Organizational Grant Program. One of 37 new grantees this year, DMG is among the 283 arts organizations slated to benefit from the program in the
2006-07 fiscal year.
A strong supporter of the grant program, Third District Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky congratulated DMG on its award, saying 's8220;I's8217;m delighted that DMG now joins the ranks of our
arts grant recipients, and with their track record, I know that we can look forward to hearing great things in the future.'s8221;
For fiscal year 2006-07 the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a total of $4,518,000 for the Arts Commission's8217;s Organizational Grant Program. This represents a two-fold
increase over the previous year, making the Arts Commission the largest public funder of the arts in Los Angeles County. The doubled appropriation enabled the County to fund 15% more
organizations than in the last fiscal year, extending cultural services to more constituents. Concurrently, the Arts Commission is phasing in a two-year grant cycle for all OGP grantees
enabling the recipients to plan ahead with greater certainty and focus time and resources on services. DMG's8217;s grant is for $12,800 over two years.
The arts contribute to the quality of life and play an important role in our communities, said Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich. The arts improve the educational process at
all levels and allow young people to develop their minds and their imaginations.
's8220;We are very excited to be one of the Organizational Grant Program recipients,'s8221; commented Cherninsky. 's8220;This award means that we will be able to increase community
attendance at music events featuring world-renowned and young virtuoso performers.'s8221; Cherninsky also addressed the general decline in funding for the arts by governmental agencies,
saying, 's8220;It is wonderful to see that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors continues to move in a positive direction, doubling their fund appropriation over last
year.'s8221;
