Yvon Lambert is pleased to announce it will inaugurate a new gallery in London with an exhibition of new works by Carlos Amorales. The exhibition will open on October 16th 2008 and will feature new animation paintings and large scale sculpture by the Mexican born artist. The opening reception will be by invitation only.
Carlos Amorales (b. 1970) lives and works in Mexico City. His work is included in some of the most visionary public and private collections throughout the world including the Museum of
Modern Art, New York and the Tate Modern, London. Amorales has shown internationally at institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, Paris, the Power Plant, Toronto, the Irish Museum of
Modern Art, Dublin, the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Tate Modern, London. In 2008 the artist will be featured in solo exhibitions at the Philadelphia
Museum of Art, Pennsylvania and the Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati.
The newest Yvon Lambert gallery space is situated in Hoxton Square near Jay Jopling's White Cube. It occupies 7,000 square feet on the ground and mezzanine levels of a former municipal
building once owned by the local church and school. One of the gallery's outstanding features is a ceiling height of nearly 12 feet which will allow Lambert to stage large scale
exhibitions of painting, installation and sculpture. The space has been designed by renowned architecture firm CoupdeVille.
Of the new venture the venerable Yvon Lambert said, "I am very proud to announce the expansion of Yvon Lambert to London and am excited to be able to contribute to contemporary art in
this wonderful city". If Lambert's past achievement is any indicator, the London gallery is sure to be an enormous success for the seasoned dealer. Lambert's business partner Olivier
Belot praised the choice of location saying that London "has the exact balance of incredible history, energy and contemporary relevance that Yvon Lambert has supported for the past 40
years. We look forward to continuing our role as a platform which enables our artists to exhibit globally, without geographical restriction."
Yvon Lambert opened his first gallery in Paris in 1966 and is considered to be one of the world's foremost modern and contemporary dealers. With the galleries in Paris and New York, the
new London gallery will be the third major Yvon Lambert exhibition space worldwide. In addition to the exhibition spaces, in 2000 Lambert announced the Collection Lambert in Avignon, a
museum which houses more than 350 major works from the dealer's personal collection.
Yvon Lambert has organized seminal exhibitions by many leading international artists such as Carl Andre, Miquel Barcel, Robert Barry, Berlinde de Bruyckere, Nan Goldin, Douglas Gordon,
Jenny Holzer, Richard Jackson, Joan Jonas, On Kawara, Anselm Kiefer, Barbara Kruger, Louise Lawler, Sol Lewitt, Glenn Ligon, Richard Long, Brice Marden, Allan McCollum, Andres Serrano,
Tony Smith, Lawrence Weiner and Tom Wesselman.
