Local Musical Rumpelstiltskins Daughter Selected for European Premiere...

"Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter" a new musical comedy, based on the award winning illustrated children's book by Diane Stanley has joined the roster of shows to be presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2005 in the 341 Seat Ballroom at the esteemed Assembly Rooms on George Street, Edinburgh, Scotland. Performances are from August 6th through 29th at 10.50AM (No performance August 17th).



Referred to as "The jewel in the crown of the Fringe", the Assembly Theatre has, for the past twenty-four years, transformed the elegant Georgian Assembly Rooms in the heart of Edinburgh into the focus of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Over this time Assembly has presented over 1,500 productions including most of the major names in British comedy, as well as a huge array of theatre, dance and music, which have been seen by over 2 million people. "Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter" is a delightful 55 minute musical comedy for kids from 5 to 105, packed with comedy, action, adventure, dance & songs. This project originally started as an exercise at the famous Lincoln Center Theatre Directors' Lab in New York and was then presented as an Equity Workshop at Boys Choir of Harlem in New York. From there, a critically acclaimed full scale workshop was mounted at the Chesapeake Arts Center in Maryland and most recently at the National Theatre in Washington, DC as part of their Saturday Morning Series for children.



Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter," a savvy spin on the classic fairy tale, has earned a "Critic's Choice" from the Baltimore City Paper and an "Area's Best Bet" from both the Annapolis Capital and Washington Post. Hailed as "a stylistic cross between Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods with broad humor, winning characters, an uplifting message and catchy tunes" by the Baltimore Sun. What if Rumpelstiltskin married the Miller's Daughter and they had a child of their own



"Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter" delivers a positive message and features a modern, independent heroine who uses courage, intellect and wit to change a King and save an entire Kingdom.



Book and lyrics by Marylander Robert Neal Marshall, who also directs and has experience in London's West End and on Broadway. Music is by Composer/Singer Tim Battle who hails from Boys Choir of Harlem with extensive theatrical, concert, and recording experience. Musical Direction and arrangements are by Jason Brown, also from Maryland. Victoria Warren choreographs with Costumes by Larry Watts, Tom Phillips & Shannon Maddox. Cast of six, many from New York, includes award winning actor /director Terry J. Long as the King who Potomac Stages referred to as a "mix of Captain Hood and Dame Edna."
