New Rep Continues Season With Rolling World Premiere Of The IceBreaker...



New Repertory Theatre continues its season of premieres at the Arsenal Center for the Arts with the 's8220;rolling world premiere's8221; of The Ice-Breaker, David Rambo's8217;s play about romance and global warming, Oct. 25 through Nov. 19. The Ice-Breaker is the story of a brilliant young PhD student completing her thesis, who seeks out the exiled genius whose work first inspired her study of climatology. She finds him in the Arizona desert, far from the glaciers he studied. Discourse - romantic and scientific - ensues, leading them to discover that their romantic attraction is as volatile and mysterious as the potential climate change they fear. The play deftly examines a human relationship against the backdrop of 's8216;an inconvenient truth.'s8221;



The Ice-Breaker is part of the National New Play Network (NNPN), produced in conjunction with productions at San Francisco's8217;s Magic Theatre and Tucson's8217;s Borderlands Theatre, making it a 's8220;rolling world premiere.'s8221; New Rep represents Boston in NNPN, which champions the development, production and continued life of new plays in American theater.

Playwright David Rambo wrote God's8217;s Man in Texas, The Ice-Breaker, The Lady With All the Answers (a one-woman show about Ann Landers), The Spin Cycle, an adaptation of Sinclair Lewis's8217; Babbitt, and a new book for the classic Paint Your Wagon. His plays have been widely produced. He has adapted several screenplays for live performance, including All About Eve, Casablanca, and Adam's8217;s Rib. His adaptation of Sunset Boulevard was performed at the Hollywood Bowl, with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra playing Franz Waxman's8217;s original score. He is a writer and co-producer of the hit television series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.



Director David Zoffoli has been Associate Artistic Director of the Merrimack Repertory Theatre and Associate Producer at the North Shore Music Theatre. As director, he won an Elliott Norton Award for Best Regional Theatre production and has worked on over 100 productions locally and abroad.



Boston-based Will Lyman starred in Leon Uris'ss Trinity in its Pre-Broadway workshop production. Theatre credits include The Novelist at EST, Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the George Street Playhouse, Dracula at the Cherry Lane, and Harold Pinter'ss Betrayal. On television, he starred in The Adventures of William Tell, was a regular on NBC'ss Hull High, appeared in the mini-series Three Sovereigns for Sister Sarah, and guest-starred on Murder She Wrote and Spenser for Hire.



Making her New Rep debut, New York-based Amy Russ currently tours with the USO World Troupe, and recently starred in Stamford Center for the Performing Arts's8217; production of It's8217;s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. She created roles in Richard Pearson Thomas's8217; Parallel Lives, Charles & Diana: The Musical, and in the Off-Broadway comedy Kerouac.



The Ice-Breaker runs from Oct. 25 through Nov. 19 with performances Wednesdays, Thursdays, and select Sundays at 7:30 pm (Nov. 5 and 12), Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm, and Saturdays at 3:30 pm, plus Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 2pm. Tickets are $30 to $50.



Pay What You Can Night is the final dress rehearsal on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Seating is general admission, and limited to capacity, and 's8220;Pay What You Can's8221; tickets are available for cash only at the box office on the day of the performance, up to 30 minutes before curtain.
