Chapel Hill Comics, in co-operation with Lulu.com (www.lulu.com), will be hosting 24 Hour Comics Day--the international celebration of the 24 hour comic
challenge. All participants who successfully complete the challenge will receive a free copy of their comic produced by Lulu.
At organized events all over the world, cartoonists attempt to each create a 24-page comic in 24 straight hours. During this marathon art exercise, participants endeavor to produce a
finished comic page every hour. The first 24 Hour Comics Day was held in 2004 and had over 500 participants. This year there are events scheduled in 85 locations in 14 countries,
including 25 U.S. states and 4 Canadian provinces.
Beginning Saturday, October 7, the Chapel Hill event will be the only official 24 Hour Comics Day event in the Triangle. Comic creation will commence at 10:30am, proceed through the wee
hours of the night and on into the next morning. I'sm very excited about the event, said Andrew
Neal, owner of Chapel Hill Comics. We have lots of great artists in the area, and I can'st wait to see what the 24-hour deadline and lack of sleep will inspire!
Chapel Hill Comics and Lulu will provide a space for the artists to work, as well as food and drink, and a place for weary artists to rest. Participation is free, but pre-registration is
encouraged, as there are a limited amount of spaces available.
I'sve been itching to do this for a while, and I'sm ecstatic that our new location gives us the ability to host a 24 Hour Comics Day, said Neal. We'sre ready to show the rest of the world
what the Triangle is made of!
