The lush and sensual paintings of Summer On The Serengeti are rendered by some of Africa's8217;s most celebrated contemporary artist; Oladapo Alao; James A. Ronald; Shane Mark Harty;
Victor Odoi and John Atta Mensah.
Oladapo Alao hails from the Oshogbo School, the most esteemed art school to emerge out of Africa. The Oshogbo's8217;s artist use an array of varied techniques from beadwork, cement
sculpture, metal works and paintings on canvas. Alao's8217;s work is influenced by Yoruba mythology (God of Thunder), contemporary literature and life in Nigeria. His world recalls
Hieronymus Bosch, a world where animals move freely with humans.
The themes of James A Roland's8217;s works are normally inspired by the environment in which he dwells; the contemporary African city. 's8220;My style ranges from realism to abstraction
and semi-abstraction,'s8221; Roland says. 's8220;I also use these themes to portray Ghanaian life; the social and economic struggles and values of its people.'s8221;
Shane Mark Harty began creating collages as a hobby while working as a designer for a leading clothing manufacturer. Spontaneous and unusual, Harty's8217;s collages are created through a
variety of mixed media utilizing spray paint, thinners and magazines.
Described as 's8220;the artist of energy's8221; Victor Odoi profoundly depicts Ghanaian women in most of his works. 's8220;A woman is so beautiful, lovely and attractive,'s8221; Odoi
says. 's8220;Anyone wishing to find beauty should look at the woman of Ghana.'s8221;
Like his contemporaries, John Atta Mensah also finds his inspiration in the African milieu. His vibrant and harmonious paintings depict modern African life, particularly as it relates to
its colorful market places. 's8220;Art is a talent that comes from our maker.'s8221; Mensah says he was not born with his talent but has developed it through focus and consistency
throughout his career.
