- The Reading Stage, will present staged readings of two one-act comedies about relationships; "Not Even In Death" and "Working Things Out", by local playwright and UMass Dartmouth
professor Mwalim (Morgan James Peters, I).
The Reading Stage will take place on July 23rd, 2005 at 7:30 PM at the Prince Hall Masonic Temple, 308 Cottage Street, New Bedford, MA. The plays are performed by members of the
Boston-based New African Company repertory ensemble.
"Working Things Out" directed by Cilla Albee, is a comic tale that chronicles the rise and ride of a relationship between Oliver, a poet and academic; and Janet, an aspiring poet and
corporate computer trainer. It's a tale of how passion and spontaneity can give rise to tension and insecurity. "Working Things Out" was also accepted to the National Black Theater
Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where it will run on August 2,3, & 4.
"Not Even In Death" directed by Mwalim, is the tale of a young man, Arnold, who seeks help from a psychiatrist in ridding himself of a ghost, Aunt Contrese, who haunts him constantly.
The Reading Stage is a program under the New Diaspora Drama Lab @ UMass Dartmouth (NDDL). NDDL is a playwright's workshop under the auspices of the African/African American Studies
Program at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, formed in 2004 by Mwalim & Professor Emeritus James Nee. The NDDL provides opportunities for playwrights of color to develop
their work through residency opportunities for playwrights of color to develop new plays through readings and workshop productions at the university.
