Award-winning Native American music album Sacred Ground: A Tribute to Mother Earth has picked up another honor. Bill Miller's8217;s title track, 's8220;Sacred Ground,'s8221; won the award
for 's8220;Best Song/Single of the Year's8221; at the Eight Annual Native American Music Awards (Nammys).
Miller contributed two songs to the compilation, which recently won a Grammy award for 's8220;Best Native American Music Album.'s8221; Sacred Ground features some of the most well-known
and renowned Native American artists working today. In fact, Rita Coolidge, who lends her vocals to final track 's8220;Mother Earth,'s8221; was a Nammy winner in the 's8220;Best
Blues/Jazz Recording's8221; category for her latest solo album, And So Is Love.
Other performers on Sacred Ground include best selling artist Robert Mirabal, Walela (Rita Coolidge, Priscilla Coolidge, and Laura Satterfield), highly-acclaimed artist Star Nayea and
Grammy Winners Primeaux and Mike. The entire album was conceived as a companion to the critically-acclaimed documentary Homeland: Four Portraits of Native Action, as well as a positive
call to action to save the environment.
The compilation, released on September 13, 2005 by Katahdin Productions and distributed through Silverwave Records, was the first music project for Executive Producer Lisa Thomas, who is
the Co-Founder/Former CEO of Clif Bar. Thomas is also president of the Katahdin Foundation, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation based in Berkeley, CA that produces socially-conscious
entertainment projects often ignored by the mainstream media, including Homeland, a stirring portrayal of the environmental hazards facing Native American reservations across the country
that has had huge success on the festival circuit and is airing on PBS.
