The day recognizes contributions teachers make in shaping the minds of children and young adults. World Teachers' Day, celebrated in more than 100 countries, also serves as a reminder to teachers themselves that they are a vital societal influence.
World Teachers' Day is being commemorated by Computious -- The Everyday Sage of the Digital Age! -- a cartoon character who is a cute American with subtle Asian features. Her name rhymes with Confucius, revered as the greatest teacher in Chinese history. In the Republic of China (Taiwan), Confucius' birthday, celebrated on Sept. 28, is called "Teacher's Day," because of the emphasis he placed on education for everyone. In the People's Republic of China (mainland China), Confucius' birth date follows the lunar calendar (8th moon, 27th day) and is celebrated in late September and early October. Confucius' teachings have also deeply influenced Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese culture.
The friends of Computious are MeiMei ("little sister" in Mandarin) her sister; DotComplicated, who overly complicates things; and Serge deFault, a socially awkward geek. Animal friends include Sweet & Sour, a cute pig who likes to sleep; PingPong the Panda Bear, who's just lovable; C.C. the Cat, who is mischievous and complains a lot; and Elman the Elephant who is a gentle worrywart.
Computious and her friends have good-natured fun in the 21st Century with high- and low-tech subjects. They add laughter and color to people's lives through a line of playful, intelligent-minded gift products including mugs, magnets, tee shirts, sweatshirts, mouse pads, greeting cards, and more.
Students, parents and friends of teachers can now give a favorite teacher a Computious Teacher Appreciation mug, shirt, or mouse pad to celebrate World Teachers' Day. The exclusive design is being released several weeks in advance to allow time for ordering. The design features Computious as a teacher standing in front of a classroom, with PingPong the Panda assisting. The backs of the mug and the shirt include a second design, of a big red apple with the text "Thank You for Teaching!" All three gift products have the text "Those Who Care, Teach Thank You for Teaching!" and can be found on the "New Products" page of the Computious website at
