This year Presidents's Day is February 16. Presidents's Day, or Washington'ss Birthday as it is known in many states, is the first federal holiday to recognize an American citizen; the holiday was first enacted in the District of Columbia and later became a federal holiday in 1885.





In 1976 the holiday was moved to the third Monday in February in order to also honor Abraham Lincoln, who was born on February 12. In recent years many states have broadened the scope of the holiday to include honoring all U.S. presidents.
