Friday 19th May marked a significant milestone in the development of grass-roots motor racing in the Emirates when Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Automobile & Touring Club for
the UAE, presented the Gulf Radical Cup to new Champion, Karim Al-Azhari (Al Nabooda Racing).
Run as part of the Dubai Autodrome National Race Series, the Gulf Radical Cup is a very exciting and closely fought race series for drivers of the UK built Radical sports racing cars
supplied and supported by Dubai based GulfSport Racing LLC. It is staged with the backing of the ATCUAE, which supervises all organised motor sport events in the UAE for cars and bikes on
behalf of the FIA, motor sport's8217;s world governing body, and its motor cycling counterpart, the FIM.
The new series started in January 2006 after three highly successful demonstration races in support of Shaikh Maktoum Hasher's8217;s 's8216;A1 Grand Prix of Nations 's8211; Dubai's8217;
at the end of 2005.
Radical's8217;s lightweight ultra-safe two seater space-frame chassis, race proven 252bhp engine, six-speed sequential gearbox and cost effective pricing is clearly a winning combination
as some 600 Radicals have been sold worldwide through an expert dealer support network. The very popular Radical SR3 racer has a power to weight ratio similar to a Ferrari Enzo with
0-100kph coming up in 3 seconds, whilst the 360bhp Radical SR8 holds the production lap record of the notoriously difficult Nordschleife Circuit at the Nurburgring.
GulfSport's8217;s team of highly qualified race engineers and racing drivers, including 2004 Formula BARC Renault Champion Nicky Wilson and ex-Tyrrell F1 race engineer Martin Hope,
provide comprehensive race car preparation, spares support and driver coaching for their drivers.
Managing Director, former Dubai motocross racer and motor racing expert Barry Hope, told us 's8220;Dubai can now boast some very high quality car and motorcycle racing supported by some
of the very best people in the industry and the UAE should be rightly proud of the progress that has been made here over the last year. Motor racing is here to stay, and even FiA
President Max Mosley, is now comparing the Middle East with Italy for its love of motor sport.'s8221;
Now with an effective Race & Drive School at the Dubai Autodrome, and the Automobile & Touring Club for the UAE handling Race Licensing, the UAE's8217;s enthusiast drivers have
never been in a better position to take up amateur motor racing so easily in such a cost effective manner, and on such a safe race circuit.
The 2007 Gulf Radical Cup starts in October 2006. Test drives in the Radical SR3 are available 's8211; contact GulfSport call Barry Hope on +971 (0)50 595 1791.
