China's demand for gears has grown at a fast pace in the past decade. In the next five years, both production and demand will continue to grow.

China's increasing demand for gears was stimulated by its two-decade high economic growth, especially the rising demand in automobile and machinery & equipment industries. China's machinery and equipment industry will remain the second largest market for gears in the foreseeable future. Since 1990, the country's gear consumption has been growing 9.1% annually. In the last decade, the gear production in China had been grown at 9.5% per year. The output reached 2.5 billion yuan in 2000. It is forecast that the gear production in China will exceed 3.9 billion yuan in 2005 and 5.8 billion-yuan in 2010.

To meet the domestic demand, China imported 516 million yuan (66.2 million US dollars) of gear and gear products in 2000, accounting for about 2.1% of the total gear consumption in China. The country is a key exporter of gears and gear products in the world. In 2000, the export value was 763 million yuan (91.9 million US dollars). Through the early 21st century, China's foreign trade of gears will continue to develop.

The report introduced China's macroeconomic trends, business environment, gears industry structure and capacity, production and demand, major producers, potential entrants, distribution channels and major industry participants. It included outlook for major gear productions. Tables and charts are contained in the report. Key producers are listed and profiled.
