Home Run Poker Launches Website in May 2005
May 17, 2005 -- Home Run Poker, a gathering place for
baseball fans that like to play poker is going online in May. With the recent explosion of growth in poker, much attention has been showered on the world of high stakes poker. ESPN and the Travel Channel regularly show episodes of The World Series of Poker and The World Poker Tour. As a result of such exposure, the emphasis in poker has been on huge poker tournaments with million dollar payoffs.
But for most players, poker is first and foremost a social game. "We all need to remember that poker is a game that most of us grew up playing for fun" says Chip Westley of Home Run Poker. "It is a game we play with friends around the kitchen table on a Friday night. We're trying to create that atmosphere for our community in the online Poker arena."
"The experience many of us have had playing poker online has just not been very enjoyable. There's typically very little chatting and if there is any chat it's frequently obnoxious.'
Home Run Poker seeks to change that experience into a positive one for it's community of players. The site appeals to a particular group with a particular interest-
baseball fans . "We feel
baseball fans are an ideal community to get together and play a friendly game of online poker" says Westley. "There's always a friendly rivalry between fans of rival teams. And in baseball, like poker, there's always tomorrow if things don't go your way today".
The new site will feature regular articles on the current Major League Baseball season, features on players of the past and present, and other baseball stories. There will also be regular articles on poker and poker strategy. An important feature of the site will be the Baseball and Poker Forums. At the forums members of the community can interact with each other, talk baseball and poker, and arrange regular password protected poker games.
