Red Sox Nation finally has its own social network site - SawxHeads.com. This is the only purely social networking site dedicated to a Major League Baseball team.
Launched in late July 2007, the site has exploded across the Internet, attracting fans from all 50 states and more than dozen countries to become members. With more than 5 million page
views and over 60,000 unique visitors, the site is growing quickly by word of mouth.
"Niche social networking sites are a natural outgrowth for passionate fan bases. It allows them to have a more focused and personal experience than what is found on larger social
networking sites" said Osmin Alvarez, president of Boxcar Media, creators of SawxHeads.com and a die-hard Red Sox fan.
The site is a combination of many of the current Web 2.0 style sites such as MySpace.com YouTube.com and digg.com. What sets it apart is a variety of specific features designed around the
sport, including building your own dream team, slugfest debates, trade and rumor information, and the popular on-the-road feature for all the places to which team travels.
Since the feedback has been so overwhelming from fans calling for niche social networking sites for other teams and sports, Boxcar Media has just launched PatsHeads.com for fans of the
New England Patriots and CeltsHeads.com for fans of the Boston Celtics.
"We have built a platform that will allow us to launch hundreds of these niche sites in a short amount of time to support passionate fans of teams everywhere" said Alvarez.
SawxHeads.com is not affiliated with the Boston Red Sox or Major League Baseball.
