April 30 2005 PickupGamecom the brainchild of Los Angeles entrepreneur Tony Caputo has launched as a worldwide portal for game players to find each other locally Tony 28 graduated from UCLA in 1998 with a degree in sociology and during his free time often played pickup basketball racquetball or even poker with fellow students However after graduation Tony became frustrated in that finding local games to play became difficult Years later and still disappointed at the lack of a solution to finding real life games Tony had an epiphany on the beach Why not make a website where people can find each other or start games themselves Using some basic web desing skills and hiring programmers from sites such as gurucom PickupGamecom came to fruition The site has a drop down menu with a list of countries from Kenya to Japan so players can find each other locally in their respective countries The real challenge will be getting a critical mass of initial users However once enough visitors know of the site as a resource there will be tremendous game liquidity if you will and finding or starting any game will be seamless says Tony We want this to be the defacto destination where people think of anytime they want to play a game with other people The great thing is not only is it free but many of the games are sports related and will help you stay in shape When asked how the site will make money if the games are free Tony smiled and seemed confident Well we think that we will have enough local advertisers in the appropriate game sections who will be anxious at the opportunity to reach such a targeted site visitor However all emails and player information is confidential and we will only permit ads on the website itself Anyways we are very excited and hope that people use the site as I could use a good tennis partner myself
