Online Booking for Salons
The ASP (application service provider) to which I am referring is beautybyus.com. The company provides a complete set of scheduling tools for the beauty and better living service sectors.

I thought it was just going be just another appointment form when I first saw the site, but when I took a closer look at the system it was apparent that this company had pushed the envelope. Just like going online to book a seat with an airline, the client can close their browser window knowing that their appointment has been confirmed. This all happens without any third party assistance or need for confirmation.
What they have done is put everyone on the same page. Both the client and the business see the same appointment book, but only the owner can see anyone's last name. The client uses the appointment book to select a start time and voila! the appointment is booked in 2 clicks.
The actual booking process was quite slick and easily understood. I got a membership and logged in to book one with their demonstration salon. After booking my haircut for Aug 23/05 at 2:30pm I was sent an e-mail reminder and to my surpise, I was also given my own page to store my personal appointment records. I was amazed!
The security is probably immense. Upfront I noticed that I couldn't use my hotmail account to register. This was probably done to keep the internet cafe'rs out of the system. When I asked my friend in the U.K. to have a look, he said he couldn't even view it because of a 403 error (access denied). That's when I noticed that site access had been limited to North America.
I really dislike sitting in the chair while my stylist answers the phone for someone else's appointment. This is one busy guy and I have many things to do throughout my day as well. It makes sense being able to confirm my own appointments online, and faster than I could by phone.
