Live Text Voting Adds New Spin to Miss Virginia Pageant Telecast enteryourvote.com...

Miss Virginia Pageant organizers hope a live text message vote will attract more TV viewers who watch other reality-TV competitions. Producers are planning a more exciting, engaging TV show for the annual scholarship competition to be televised on six TV stations at 9 PM Saturday, June 27.

But unlike text votes on network TV shows that require 24 hours for viewers to learn the results, pageant voters will know by the end of the night the contestant who receives the most text votes. Each text message vote will cost $ .99, and standard text message rates apply. The additional revenue will allow the pageant to add a new $ 500 Viewers's Choice scholarship to the finalist who gets the most text message votes.

We want to take this telecast to the next level and make history at the same time, says Bootie Chewning, Executive Producer. Reality-TV is where it'ss at. I watch Dancing with the Stars and American Idol all the time and I know a lot of other people do, too, she adds.

Producer/director Mark Schreier agrees. These kind of shows always get high ratings. So we'sre going full-throttle to make our telecast, which is broadcast outside a TV ratings period, an engaging TV show so viewers have a vested interest to watch from beginning to end. We'sre lucky to have a national text voting service working with us without charging any set up fees.

The text voting will be handled by a Chicago-based company, enteryourvote.com. The unique revenue-sharing model was designed by Thomas Demme, enteryourvote.com President. We wanted to give clients an opportunity to tap into the multi-million dollar text voting promotion that heavy hitters like American Idol and other major consumer and entertainment outlets use as a staple to their marketing programs, Demme says. But with enteryourvote.com people can use any phone carrier they choose and clients get a percentage of the text voting fee which creates an entirely new revenue stream. There'ss no way to lose, Demme adds.

On June 1, the pageant began an internet vote. The highest vote-getter who the judges have not selected as a top 10 finalist will become the 11th finalist. Viewers will then be able to text message votes for each of the 11 finalists during swimsuit, talent, and evening competitions during the telecast. No one, not even the judges, will know which top 11 finalist is the People'ss Choice until the end of the night. The contestant who gets the most internet votes by 10 PM Friday, June 26, gets a new $500 People'ss Choice scholarship. We'sre proud that we can increase scholarships this year, in spite of the economy, Schreier adds.

People can vote as many times as they want for as many contestants as they like -- at a cost of $ .99 / vote -- for both internet and text message voting. Proceeds go to the Miss Virginia Scholarship Fund.

The final night of competition will be televised live on the following TV stations: WSET ABC 13 Roanoke/Lynchburg; WVIR NBC 29 Charlottesville; WJAL IND 68 Hagerstown, MD; WCYB DT 2, CW 4 Bristol /Tri-Cities, TN; WSKY IND 4 Norfolk/Hampton Roads/VA Beach; and WRIC ABC 8 Richmond.

The Miss Virginia Organization is a 501-C(4)not for profit organization, awarding nearly $ 50,000 to the 2009 Miss Virginia contestants -- about $ 8,000 more than last year.
